I looked deeper into Billy Collin's poem "Introduction to Poetry". I wrote the poem out by hand and annotated it with thoughts, insights, and questions I had well analyzing the poem more thoroughly. I found that the author is really trying to send a message that it is becoming more and more difficult for students to be able to look at a piece of poetry and see it as a human being with a personality, background, and meaning.
Thesis/Claim Practice:
- Policy - Introduction to Poetry should be read and taught to students in high school and college.
- Definition - The author is making a statement about poetry in this poem.
- Comparison - The different ways the author suggests to analyze a poem is like activities students would do daily.
- Evaluation - Introduction to Poetry is good for students to read because of the message it holds.
- Causal - The dramatic words the author uses at the end of the poem causes an impact to be made on the reader.
